MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble

Manistee Band Members performed at the MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble on Saturday March 18, at Mackinaw Trail MS in Cadillac.

All students earned medals !! Those performing solos in grades 10-12 also had to play 5 memorized scales and sight read. They can chose the level of difficulty with Proficiency III being the most difficult and only seniors can play this level after passing Proficiency II in their junior year and Proficiency I in their sophomore year.

The last time we had a live State Solo and Ensemble was in 2019.

Soloists have the opportunity to be nominated by their judges to advance to the Outstanding Soloist Competition that will be held at CMU on 3/31.

Emily Sullivan was nominated for her clarinet and piano solos and Sarah Huber for her marimba solo!!

Great Lakes Concert Band Festival

On Friday, March 17, 2023 the Manistee HS Band performed at the Great Lakes Concert Band Festival at Pease Auditorium at Eastern Michigan University.

Thirteen HS Bands from all over the state performed for each other and panel of clinicians. The clinicians were Dr. Albert Nguyen from the University of Memphis, Dr. Steve Peterson retired from the University of Illinois, and Dr. Shanti Simon from the University of Oklahoma.

We listened to three other groups perform. The Wind Ensembles from Traverse City Central HS and Lakeland HS as well as the featured performance by the Eastern Michigan University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Mary Schneider.

The Manistee HS Band performed the March of the Belgian Paratroopers by Pierre Leemans, arranged by Jim Swearingen, Courtly Airs and Dances by Ron Nelson, and Kalos Eidos by Carol Brittin Chambers. We received very complimentary feedback from the clinicians.

After our performance we had a wonderful clinic with Dr. Albert Nguyen.

2022 Spring Band Concert

All of the bands performed that night, HS Jazz, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grades, and the HS Symphonic Band!! The concert ended with all 204 band students performing Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean together.


